Brad Henry has selected the Oklahoma City National Memorial as the image to appear on a special quarter to be issued by the U.S. Mint next year. The mint will produce quarters next year for each of the states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories.Governors are asked to recommend an appropriate site in their jurisdiction for representation on the quarter.
The U.S. Treasury will make the final decision on designs, which are expected to be announced later this month.
The memorial is on the site of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, which was bombed on April 19, 1995, killing 168 people and injuring more than 500 others in the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history.
